TEN HOURS UNTIL DAWN by Michael J. Tougias (unabridged) is presented by Blackstone Audio and comes with what is perhaps the best audiobook app available (see FEATURES, below).

“Arguably the best story of peril at sea since Sebastian Jungers Perfect Storm…. [The] balancing of human and technical detail is nearly perfect.” (Booklist)

During the height of the blizzard of 1978, Captain Frank Quirk set out with his crew of four and his forty-nine-foot steel boat, the Can Do, to rescue a floundering tanker and a Coast Guard patrol boat that had gone after it. Here is a devastating true account of bravery and death at sea.

Self-contained, this audiobook app is perfect for your commute, on a trip, or while relaxing. Based on a library-quality recording, this app was built especially for your iPhone and iPod Touch. No unreadable text, no endless scrolling on a tiny screen. The audio is of higher-than-normal quality, making for a great listening experience that will not tire your ears or grate on your nerves.

NOTICE: This app includes the exact same 5-star recording offered elsewhere at much higher prices. It was professionally recorded by Blackstone Audio’s Earphones® Award-winning narrator, Joe Barrett. You are not buying yet another amateur or volunteer narration. No clicks, background noises, throat clearing, mispronunciations, tinny voices or monotones will be found here.

“Narrator Barrett makes each character come to life. He handles the New England accents with ease and his tone conveys the seriousness, stark realism, and ultimate tragedy.” (Kliatt)

During the blizzard of 1978, a tanker floundered on the shoals off the Massachusetts coast. The Coast Guard dispatched a patrol boat that was soon in trouble, too. A pilot-boat captain, Frank Quirk, heard of the Coast Guard’s plight on his radio. He gathered his crew of four, readied his forty-nine-foot steel boat, the Can Do, and entered the maelstrom of the blizzard soon to be known as the Storm of the Century.
Encountering one of the most monstrous seas ever recorded, Quirk struggled through the night to keep his boat from sinking, maintaining contact through his hand-held battery-powered radio. The Can Do stayed afloat past three a.m. Then there was silence.
